no real answers here. I think it is a fungus. I had it in my mulch this year and never had it before. My neighbor bought mulch from the same man and he also has it. I think it is just where the mulch came from. I don't intend to buy from this man anymore. If you buy mulch from an ad in the JP, you better ask if they guarantee these patches won't show up in the mulch.

My Husbands Granny came down one day & I was asking her abt. it & She said " well its snake SH@T!! Lol We got a kick outta that But it wasn't even an hour later & sure enuff here came a black ( thank God) snake outta that dang flower bed!!! Goes to show ya age does have its good things! :) I hope your flowers are prettier then ever by now!!

Retired Vet, thanks for that link and yep! That's it. At least I know what it is now. I try not to use any mulch near my foundation, but I had someone else lay it this year and I've spent time trying to get away from the front of the house so that termites won't set it! Thanks, again.

For the last two years, I've fixed my yard up and had twice ground mulch delivered to my house. I get everything all ready and get it spread and then about a month or so later when everything starts to bloom, I have these spots of bright yellow, bubbling-looking, soft spots on the mulch and I have a big one on my old oak tree stump. I've been told it's deer vomit from sick deer or a fungus that is in the mulch. Can anyone tell me what it really is?
