Couch....Sectional or not?

Daddy P

Posted 11:17 pm, 12/22/2011

I was telling my daughter that it will probably be awkward to have a sectional because people will be sitting on top of each other. We don't have a lot of visitors though so it will be fine two or three times a year...we just need to all wear deodorant and use mouthwash that day.

Just my opinion....sectional sofa's are terrible for conversation. If all you are going to do is watch tv, then they are ok but who wants to carry on a conversation sitting in a line. It reminds me of being a kid and having to sit in the middle of the back seat of the car.

I'm wanting to get a sectional sofa too. There's one at Big Lots that will fit, but honestly you will have less seating than with a love seat and sofa. The one we may get at Big Lots has enough room for five people and our sofa and love seat you can fit about 6. Ours is broken and about to fall apart, but I am holding on to it as long as I can. The one at Big Lots that we like is about 699.00. The one I really want is at Ikea. It has a removeable cover, but is 999.00. If I can save up enough money I will probably get it, but that's dreaming big. You can look on Big Lots website and see theirs and also on Ikea. Walmart has some too.

Go to Johnson's Furniture on 268E if you want a really nice sofa cheaper than Big Lots, I bought a 2000 dollar leather sofa for 450, Styles and prices are better than anybody in town!

Personally, I was happy to see our sectional go, but I was in Big Lots last month and they had several different styles to choose from at reasonable prices.

two recliners, a love seat and throw pillows for the kiddies to lay in in the floor

Aren't there smaller sectionals you can get. Maybe not as big as the large ones but that would still offer more seating? Where would be the best place to look?

We have a sectional and I hate it. I think I mainly hate it because the huge *** cushions on the back part are not attached... and my 8 year old likes to build a huge fort out of them.. LOL.. I used to hate how it would slide apart there in the bend of the sectional...so my husband totally nailed the two pieces together. No problem with that anymore. However, when we replace our living room furniture, we're going with a couch and a loveseat . :)

I really appreciate all of our opinions. We don't eat in the living room but we do live in our living room. We don't have a den or anything, so the living room is where everything happens. We often have my parents and brother over for supper, so we don't have enough seating for everyone. There are 6 of us, so when they are over it makes it hard to seat 9 people on one couch and one side chair.

I'd go with what is the most comfortable for your family. For example, are you a family of people who lay on the sofa, watch tv and go to sleep, waking up later on to ease into bed? Or do you only sit up straight and live more formally? Do you ever eat in the living room, or is that a cardinal sin? I'd take those things into consideration and go for comfort level.

sofa and a couple of overstuffed chairs...or just one chair. sectionals tend to move about,a nd wear differently that a sofa.

we have a sectional in the living room, and the media room. we are going to change the living room soon

Twinkie I was just giving my opinion. Maybe because I had a sectional and it took up to much room, and I never did like it.

With the odd layout of the living room there isn't room for a couch & love seat.

You would be more happy with a sofa and a love seat than a sectional. A sectional takes up to much room and hard to move and handle. Their heavy a akward. JMO. I would rather have a regular sofa love seat and chair.

We got a sectional at one time to have more sitting in our small living room. It seemed to make the room seem smaller and I hated it. I guess it really just depends if you would rather have more seats or more space and how small your livingroom is.

Is it more important to sit comfortably with your family? or for the room to look bigger and no one be comfortable?

I say sectional.

Our living room as a bit on the smaller size, not tiny but not huge. Should we stick with our couch or go with a sectional? I think that a sectional would give us a bit more seating, but would it make the room seem smaller?

Any opinions?
