Rabbit, fish and worm poop is the only poop you do not need to compost. All others need composting before using on plants.

Chicken manure is good but only if it is aged. Fresh or semi-fresh will burn the plants.

Always plant when it's cooler out

It's best to set plants out on the start of cooler cloudy rainy days. That way you don't have to shade them or temper them.

miraclegro is a gardeners best friend

pour some of it around the bottom if you do it in the sun or this evening spray the whole plant

You'd think a country gal would know how to plant maters

Thanks whitehawk, I wondered if it could have been the sun. The place where I bought them had them under a cover, but they were sold in containers. I have bought them just like this for years and never had that happen. I guess we live and learn, thanks again for the info.

You need to shade them when you first plant them. This ensures that they toughen up to withstand the sun's heat. They need to adjust from where you have transplanted them from the planting trays to your garden.

Tomatoes are sun scalded. Plants were either grown in or held in shade and were not sun hardened. I assume these were sold as tomato plants not in containers but in bundles, never-the-less, all newly planted tomatoes need some shading for the first 3 or 4 days and plenty of water. News paper makes good shading material. Tent the tomatoes and weigh the papers down so they don't blow against the plant. Leave a lot of room in the paper for the plant and air to circulate through it. In the country we break tree limbs and use them to shade the tomatoes rather than the papers because too many tomato plants and plenty of leafy branches from black gum and wild cherry limbs. I'd start over because even if you lucked out and the plants did come back they would never really thrive.

I planted tomato plants Saturday evening, just bought them on Saturday. I went to water them last night and the leaves have turned white and look like they might be drying up. The stem part of the plants look fine and are not drooping or changing colors. By white, I mean they look like they have been painted white! Has this happened to anyone else? I wonder if they are going to survive or if I should just go ahead and start over
