I've always wanted to plant some blueberry bushes myself, but no clue where to start....What is the best type to buy, and where should I get them? How long after planting is it before they produce fruit? I REALLY regret not paying better attention when my parents and grandparents were gardening. 😩

sgtkracka (view profile) Posted 6:48 pm, 06/28/2015 Fwiw, apparently citronella oil only repels mosquitoes if its burning in a lamp or candle of some sort. I tried a citronellla product you rub on your skin..... I had my legs caked in the stuff and I swear I think it attracted them. My legs were covered in mosquito bites.
It puts the potion on its skin.

Mosquitos find me irresistible as well, Elmo. I am O+ blood type. I have read that is their preferred type.

Anyone who's ever picked black or blue berries and didn't get chigger bit can't be human.

If you plant at least two varieties of blueberry plants you will improve the yield. Mine start bearing about the first of July, and continue until frost. The only problems I have consist of birds, who always want more than their share. Mine seem to prefer a acidic soil condition. At my present location, I removed all of my old plants and started over last year with three varieties totaling twelve plants.

blueberries like acidic soil, coffee grounds will do that for them. just til the grounds in at the base of the plant with a small hand tool. don't have to go deep, it will leech down
