Most of the bags of black sunflower seed says on the bag the oil will kill the grass.

Could it be the bird poop? Too much concentrated poop will kill your grass. I dunno, just my 2 cents.

You know, I get that wild bird seed stuff at DG and this is what happens, sometimes the birds eat it and sometimes they will not touch that stuff. Even other animals does the same thing! It's very strange to me at first I thought the bird was getting food some place else. When the stuff would fall out it killed everything. It's a mixed seeds bag. I wonder if some of has some kind of junk on it or something.

I built a feeder once that had two lower, wider platforms underneath the feeder to catch spillage. Not that hard to do...

Not trying to be a smart***, but, I put all my feeders away from the grassy areas.

I have bird feeders in my yard filled with black oil sunflower seed. I want to feed the birds year round but the seed that the birds spill out are killing my lawn. I know that you can buy seed guard but some seed can still fall out. Is there anything else I can do to either keep the seed from spilling or is there anything I can put on my lawn?
