Glad I could help Janba7777. I use the model 15-1950 from Radio Shack. Product ID 7973 from http://www.monoprice.com (manicmama77's link) looks like it would work and also has a video on hiding your components. Both these units only work if your components remote is infrared.

Don't put the TV over the fireplace. The TV isn't a painting that you look at standing up. It's something you watch for hours at a time.

I have a flat screen on my wall my hubby put it there so I can't really help lol.....I did paint the wall black behind it. Really makes the TV pop.

i grew up with floor model tv's ...30-40 inches up is about as far as i'm going up on a wall

A friend of mine has his TV like this, went over to watch a game the other night and by the time I left I had a terrible neck ache from looking up all night. I would never mount one like that.

What you need is called a remote extender. You place the unit that picks up the infrared signal from your remotes anywhere in the same room as the tv and it transmits the signal to the other unit which is located in the room where the components are.

Thanks so much for your advice, but I can handle hanging the TV......it's WHERE am I going to put the components that they are not going to look tacky. I have no room on either side of my fireplace for the components. Will the components work if they are not facing the remotes? Can I put components in other room and make them work? Making the fireplace mantle deeper is a great idea. But is it going to make a g difference deflecting the heat away from the TV??? I know there has to be a way to make this work. MY CHALLENGE is where to put the components. I have heard about a smaller box that Charter offers but if there is an option to make it work wireless......that is what I need. It's just hard for me to believe that this option isn't available. Most people probably have a good place for their components around their TV over the mantle, but I don't. And I can't be the only one that has this problem. Please give me more advice if you know about this. Thanks!

Sounds like 2 gave you good advice.

Lowes sells almost everything you'll need to mount it over the fireplace. Whether it is rock or sheetrock they will have the anchors, drill bits and everything to mount it. You'll need a good bracket too that is suffecient to hold the size tv you're mounting. Also, you may have to get a longer cord to put on the tv if there is not a power source close by. Lowes sells flat cables, cords etc to run through the flat 'conduit' that has an adhesive backing. The receiver, dvd player etc will need to sit on a small stand near the fireplace with all the cables running through the conduit. It wll be neat, professional and safe if you do it right. One note to mention...if the fireplace is used regularly, make sure the mantle is wide enough or the fireplace has a heat deflector to move the heat away from the television. Hate to see an expensive flat panel melted down to nothing. Good luck.

My tv's been on the mantel for years. I just bought a long HDMI cable at electronic service center in elkin, cheaper than anywhere else you'll find, and a dropcord for the power. I put my components on a small shelf beside fireplace.

I need some help. I am not technology gifted.....but I do want to put my flat screen TV over my mantle. I have no place to put the components anywhere around the TV, but since it's 2012, I figure there IS A WAY to do it.

Is there a way to put it in my bedroom wireless? Should I ask Charter......ROFL, ROFL......I"m sorry. They may very well be the people to help me, but it would shock me if they knew and it actually worked. I'll have to give them credit. I was fed up with them about a month ago......I started laughing at them when they would tell me they were going to help me. I told them I was DONE. Well, guess what? My services have worked correctly since then! LOL Anyway. I need to do this soon. My Christmas tree is gonna' block the view of the TV where it is now. I really want it over the mantle.
