Walking Dead still sucks

I was chosen as a Neilsen person back in the late 80's.

They sent me $2 when I returned my sheet.

They had just added a column for "VCR".

Nielsen uses a technique called statistical sampling to rate the shows -- the same technique that pollsters use to predict the outcome of elections. Nielsen creates a "sample audience" and then counts how many in that audience view each program. Nielsen then extrapolates from the sample and estimates the number of viewers in the entire population watching the show. That's a simple way of explaining what is a complicated, extensive process. Nielsen relies mainly on information collected from TV set meters that it installs, and then combines this information with huge databases of the programs that appear on each TV station and cable channel.

To find out who is watching TV and what they are watching, the company gets around 5,000 households to agree to be a part of the representative sample for the national ratings estimates. Nielsen's statistics show that 99 million households have TVs in the United States, so Nielsen's sample is not very large. The key, therefore, is to be sure the sample is representative.

So they review 5,000 people's watching habits, and assume that each person counts for 60,000 people. So to get an estimate of 17 million viewers, it really means that 283 Nielsen reviewers watched it.

Does Neilsen take into account those folks who watch TV shows "differently" than others?

17.3 million viewers

Also, I don't think a show like Vegas, that got cancelled a couple of years ago after one season, is more popular than Walking Dead.

Look at you source.....TV guide. The Walking Dead is way better than 66th.

Whether a show is good or not is subjective. Your opinion holds no more weight than anyone else's.

Being qualified as a successful show and actually a good show are two different achievements.

Seems 14.8 million people disagree with you, Fins:

Per Deadline:

As in past fall finales, last night's The Walking Dead saw the death of a major character and the survivors confronting some of their worst fears. The Season 5 midseason ender also saw the AMC zombie apocalypse not only break its own records but tackle Sunday Night Football for the fifth time this season. In a season that has seen the show based on the Robert Kirkman co-created comic series smash through one record after another, last night's WD was watched by 14.8 million, with 9.6 million among adults 18-49.

That's a strong double-digit rise of 23% and 24% from the 12.1 million total viewers and 7.7 million in the key demo who tuned in for the Season 4 midseason finale last December 1. That episode was WD's previous midseason record holder. The all-time record holder the AMC series is the Season 5 premiere of October 12 that drew 17.3 million total viewers and 11 million adults 18-49.

Compared with last week's episode, The Walking Dead was up 8% among the key demo. Season-to-season, the first half of the current fifth season has risen 13% among the 18-49s vs. the first half of S4 and 13% among total viewers with 9.5 million in the demo and 14.6 million viewers overall.

Why is The Blacklist #2 and #11?

Fins

Oh look, it ranks 66. Long way down from first place

Fins

Go back and watch breaking bad again now that you know the whole show. It's like Lost. After the whole thing is laid out, you ask, "that's it?" It was great while it was on because you were always waiting for the build up and what was going to happen next.

The biggest problem with walking dead is the writers are huge fans of the graphic novel and the network wants to milk the show for everything they can. The show has actually been on longer than the time frame for the story in the show

foggymorning (view profile)

I still love it. However, I'm still sobbing right now, so I'll see you in February. I won't recover before then.

I'm with you. I'll never understand why some people watch something they don't like. There are lots of other things on TV.

Personally, I think it's fantastic television.

I'd say the Denver/KC game last night had more viewers.

Fins

I don't believe it's the number one show on television. But even so, it's high ratings are because of the popularity from the initial season, where people were roped in because it was so different. I haven't found one person that thinks the show is great, but they watch it now to see what happens

You people have not got a clue it is the number one rated show on television. It was a good show, and a good season. If you do not like the show do not watch it.
