I read the "Rot & Ruin" series & LOVED it. I also watch "The Walking Dead", but I had never made the connection. Think I will go back & re-read the books.

I really hope you're wrong.

But I fear you're not......

Next season will consist entirely of them trying to figure out how to get out of that box car. The cliff hanger will be they almost do it every week.

I fear Beth might be a plate of food. Maybe the funeral home was a lure to catch people for cannibals at Terminus.

I should mention that Rot & Ruin does have two somewhat vague spoilers, assuming that the WD follows the comic series. They're not really spoilers, though, as much as basic concepts.

*** SPOILER ALERT!!! DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ***

1. Since R&R takes place 15 years in the future, obviously, there's not going to be a cure in this series.

2. With "Quick Draw Carl" mentioned in the book, you can safely assume that Carl isn't going to die in the series... at least, not anytime soon.

Of course, that assumes that the TV series follows the comic. There's nothing keeping them from surprising us and changing everything.

Note of interest, though: Melissa read an article yesterday about a spin-off to WD being green-lighted for 2015. No word on details yet, but the theory is that it runs parallel to WD, just in a different area and with different people. I'm really hoping it follows the Rot & Ruin story, starting with Tom and Benny Imura (main characters for R&R).

No, no, they're still slow and stupid like in Walking Dead (fast zombies are just offensive, and I rarely put up with those movies; Return of the Living Dead being the one exception). But where Romero referred to them as a new species altogether (making them not cannibals), the Rot & Ruin theory is that they're humans that are infected with a virus that takes brings them back from the dead.

Ledger / Rot & Ruin also gives the virus the ability to evolve later in the series. I don't want to give away too much, though.

Yes, please give us the gist on patient zero. You have me curious now

Patient Zero is the first in a series of "Joe Ledger" novels (with Joe being the main character). In this book, he's introduced to an unknown government agency that goes after big-time terrorists.
The antagonist in this book is someone that has created a type of doomsday virus that turns people in to zombies. Later in the book, though, you find that he has been working on an alternative that is supposed to make him super strong, super fast, and live forever (basically, a zombie with a functioning brain).

By this storyline, this virus is what later causes the entire zombie apocalypse. They're not really zombies in the Romero sense, but are really people that were infected with a virus that produces certain traits after they die (including a slower rate of decay).

Incidentally, Joe Ledger has a role in the Rot & Ruin series, too.

Personally, I liked the Rot & Ruin series better than the Joe Ledger series. Joe Ledger was a little too Jason Statham for my taste, where Rot & Ruin was more believable and had a deeper storyline.

Not in a Romero sense? BOO! BOO! So it's more of a 28 days later (fast "zombies")?

Jason, how many books are in each series?

I'm not sure about the Joe Ledger series; I read two or three, but then moved on to Game of Thrones (an excellent book series so far, BTW).

The Rot & Ruin series has 4 books, but I'm pretty sure it is set up to have another one. Each book has around 500 pages, but they're relatively fast reads, and for me they were hard to put down. Even Melissa liked them, and she doesn't usually go for zombies like I do.

I think they even clarified that once in the show. I think Glenn said something about a cure and GI joe corrected him.

I think that the super nerd with the mullet is blowing smoke up the ***es of the army type people. He probably only interacted with people via world or warcraft and stuff like that. He probably doesnt know anything about the cure for the zombie plague. Hes already inplausible because he couldnt control the gun. Every kid gets a powerful automatic weapon on his 4 th birthday in TX. I just proved hes a shut in.... lol.

He never claimed to have a cure, that's a common misconception I've noticed. I'm not sure about the comic as I have been avoiding it. Maybe that's where the wires are crossed?
