I agree with adventuress about Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series... to a point.
The books started out fantastic, kept getting better and then everything from Obsidian Butterfly and after stops being Urban Vampire fiction and starts being about the main characters' libido. In the last book I read, the "big mystery" was whether or not Anita was pregnant.
Don't get me wrong, I love the character. I love her so much, I hate to see what the author has turned her into.
Still, read them. Start from the first book (Guilty Pleasures) and you will be hooked in no time.

Christine Feehan, J. R. Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Savannah Russe, Amanda Ashley , Maggie Shayne, Laurel K. Hamilton are just some of my favorite authors. I hope you find a series you like.

Thanks, Hoyt, I looked into the Lumley series and ordered book 1. It looks good.
I have read all the Anne Rice vampire stuff.
I have also read Maggie Shayne and I liked those!
I still need to look into hamilton.
Thanks for the suggestions!

The Feast of All Saints by Anne Rice is a good vampire book. It is set around Civil War time in Louisiana and has very intersting southern history in it as well. I've also read Lestat and found it a good read too.

I loved the Anne Rice vampire novels. Does anyone know of any other good vampire novels out there?
