My gosh, what an episode! And, just when I thought being with a group like the Guv's had humanized Merle. Nope! I can't wait until he and Daryl come face to face and he sees how much Daryl has changed. Glad to see Big M mixing it up with the main group now.

Warning spoiler alert for what happens in the comic Walking Dead and who is on the other end of the phone line in the comic book version! I'd say it is the same person on the tv show and they are just having it happen a bit different and earlier. Don't continue to read if you don't want to see spoiler.
In the comic after Lori and the baby are killed by walkers at the prison, Rick and Carl leave the others for a bit and go stay in a house somewhere. Rick completely loses his mind and is out of if for awhile. The house phone rings and he answers it. It is Lori on the other end. She gives him advice and basically beats him down for all the mistakes he has made. He lies and tells Carl it is some people who are living in a town that has power and phone service.

Daryl being sexy doesn't exclude the others from being sexy (except for the Governor because anyone who keeps severed zombie heads in aquariums is, by default, not sexy). I think Rick is a hunk, wanted to have Shane's babies and Glenn is adorable. Hershel's about thirty years too old for me, though.
I don't care who Daryl was before he joined Camp Dinner Bell. I care about who he is now. He has grown so, so much over the course of the series. He had no sense of self-worth, but has found himself within this group. He's a leader (second-in-command to Rick), and took great care of Sophia. The way he searched for her? I don't believe Old Daryl would have done that. Nor would he have taken care of Carol. We saw last season how he was struggling with his failure when it came to not saving Sophia and not feeling worthy of Carol's affection for him.
One of the things I love about him is that he's self-aware. He said in last week's episode that he could've easily been one of those prisoners but he wasn't. And, he took up for his people. When Rick second-guessed himself, Daryl supported him.
So, while you might see someone who used to be racist, white trash, I see a man who has struggled to overcome who he used to be to become a good man and a productive member of his society (this is saying a lot for a man who, by nature, is a loner). He's awesome, a good fighter, and, yes, darn sexy when snuggling babies.
Mileage may vary, of course.

Danged you....Blast you!!!!! Write something on th efirst line before you spoil it....LOL I have only been able to see Season 3 Episode 1 on AMTV.com so far since I have no satellite/cable. Are there any other places to view it on the net? I keep hearing, beyond all my attempts to stay out of it that there are a lot of new surprises this season.
BTW, when did the zombies learn to run and not stumle/fumble so much? I miss the old zombies that were aimless.
