Well I went ahead and got the book yesterday... I'm already captivated. Such a beautiful writing style! It's not too over-descriptive and it's not plain-jane either. Lovely.. I'm already sure it is going to be a great read.

Okay I will probably check it out soon then. I am in need of some new books right about now.. I am reading my old ones over haha.

Ok so there are a lot of characters, and they all end up interacting in each other's lives, and affecting each other in some way. Yet they are all very different people, but the building of a Cathedral in 12th century Europe ties them all together. The main characters are a mason named Tom Builder and his family, Prior Phillip a monk, a wanna-be Earl named William, Lady Aileena, a peculiar boy named Jack, and his mother Ellen. The book gives us the drama of these people's lives, and yet also gives a picture of what life was like for all levels of society in 12th century Europe. May sound boring, but trust me it is a great book.

This was definitely one of the best books I've read, too. I picked it up about a year ago and thought it was going to be very boring and historical, but I was surprised at how interesting it was!

I wish that I remembered it better so that we could discuss it. Luckily, though, this is one of those rare books that I could read over and over.

Are we still reading as a group? If so, I would suggest this one soon.

I just finished reading The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet, and I must say it was a really great book! SO many characters and plot twists...sex, violence, drama, romance, politics, religion, this book has it all. Has anyone else out there read it? If so lets discuss...and if you havent read it...def check it out...its a good one.
