I used to read all of his books as soon as they hit the racks in the stores. I really loved The Shining, Salem's Lot, and the Stand. Carrie was OK, but kinda far-fetched. Fire Starter was OK, too. I read Christine, and enjoyed it. I reread Salem's Lot and The Shining several times, really loved those two. Haven't read any of his recent work.

The book Nightmares and Dreamscapes is a collection of short stories, not a novel, but I loved "Dolan's Caddilac" out of that collection. Very much a psychological study of revenge, which I enjoyed very much.

"It" scared me half to death, even gave me nightmares (and I'm a grown woman!) until the end. Then I was mad. The ending was too stupid to have King's name on it...but the book was unbelievable up until that point. "Bag of Bones" was really creepy too...but I read it in the hospital after an operation and I was on heavy drugs. Couldn't always tell what was real and what was the book...now, THAT was a terrifying experience.

So I finally broke down and read Cell. I was a bit iffy on it because I've heard some bad things about it. After reading it I wanted to hit someone because I was sooo mad that he just leaves you hanging at the end, but other than that I think Cell was meant to be a "The Stand" like story. It was good. I give it two thumbs up.

I haven't read much of his newer stuff, but I absolutely loved The Dead Zone. Runner-up would be Thinner, which was penned under the Richard Bachman pseudonym, or Skeleton Crew because of the story "The Mist".

I like most of his books. Just finished Lisey and didnt really care for it. I skipped pages because it was boring and too far out. Really enjoy his earlier work. Have not read Cell, didnt think it was one I would enjoy. I dont care for the Dark Tower types either. Has anyone read his son's book? Joe Hill, Heart Shaped Box. I thought it was pretty good.

It isn't my favorite - how could I pick just one?!?! - but I just finished Blaze. Anyone else read it? I thought it was really sad.

Coming from the education system, it makes me wonder how many Blazes we miss every day!

i've got to go with the classic- the stand.

the cell- that's one of his new ones, was surprisingly good- i'd recommend that one. he goes back to his apocalypse theme- but it's surprisingly believable- and definitely unique compared to his other novels.

Thank you so much! I am going to check into that, I will look for them at Amazon. Its been a long time (ten years maybe) since I read first one! I will need to refresh!

The next four are called
Wizard and Glass
The Wolves of the Calla
Song of Susannah
The Dark Tower

King went back and rewrote parts of the first book, The Gunslinger, to strengthen it and fix a few inconsistencies. If it's been awhile since you've read them, I'd check that out and you might want to re-read so you get back in the game so to speak! I love them. I hope you can find them and read them. I got mine at Rhoades in NW.

I have read three of the Dark Tower books, I thought it was a trilogy. The first three were really captivating, so now I am anxious to look into the others.

I am currently on book 6 of King's Dark Tower series. These are wonderful books. I can't put them down. They start a little slow but really pick up the pace. Very interesting work of literature. King considers it his greatest work. There are tons of links to other books. If you're a King fan, or even if you're not, these are superb books!
