I read whenever I can. If I'm taking the kids to the doctor/dentist, cooking supper, or on the potty!! I usually have a book and several magazines that I am reading on. Also if one of my kids is reading something for school, I read that too!!
Just finished Mariah Stewarts' Last Looks series--very good!

there is something you can pick up at the pharmacy, it is called "motion sickness bands" they are kinda like tiny sweat bands, and there are little plastic bumps that rest on the inside of your wrist, I know that it seems crazy that they work, but I was so sick when I was pregnant with my first child that I wore them all the time. works like a dream.

as for reading while riding, havent been able to do that since I was young...I drive when ever we go somewhere...=(

Granniehawk,
Every time we go on a trip and I am not driving, I mourn the wasted time that I cannot read while riding. I truly grieve! My children are restrained , I am in an upright, seated position, my husband is driving and I CAN"T READ! I used to be able to read while riding or standing on my head, but not anymore. I get very car sick if I even look down or turn around in my seat. So, I just take the time to rest my eyes and think about when we stop if I'll have a chance to read a few lines! If anyone has suggestions for avoiding motion sickness without knocking yourself out with dramamine, I'd love to hear it.

Guns and books? oh well back to the question, I'm a college student, work full time, family, etc. so it's not easy to find time to read for fun. I usually carry a book with me to read at lunch or waiting in line or at Dr. office ( Once I actually read during a gyn exam- Christopher Moore's It's a Dirty Job, no pun intended), Like dumpysunshine, I "gravitate toward the written word". If it's a particularly intense book, I tend to ignore housework and stay up late at night until I finish. (thank god my family is understanding-they read alot too).

Does anyone read in the car (whlle riding, not driving)? I've tried, but I get sick. Any advice?

when I go over there, I take my Ruger p95 it is a 9mm, its a good medium strength/weight weapon. Some people prefer a lighter shot, like a .22, its also a smaller gun. I am by far no expert, but I do enjoy going. I also have a Colt .38 special, it is harder for me to shoot, only because it is a revolver, and has a much heavier trigger (that means it is harder to pull) There are a lot of people over there at duncans that can give much better advice and possibly a short How-to lesson with you, and can help you pick out what feels good to you. I took the CCW class over there and the guy (I cant remember his name) that runs that class is a VERY smart man he helped me alot, and turned me onto glock...which by the way, is a much easier weapon to use than the Ruger. I hope that this was the kind of info you wanted...take care.

I know this is off the book subject, Loving-but what kind of gun is good for target shooting? I have been thinking about this myself.

ha ha...there is some pretty neat stuff in there...plus it keeps the hubby on his best behavior...lol (just kidding). I have found spending an hour every other week or so at duncans on the range keeps my stress level to a min. and its really interesting, I knew absolutely nothing about things of that nature, and one day got an invite to go shooting...been going ever since...really takes the edge off of a crappy day....=)

Guns & Ammo, huh? Who knew.

Yeah, I keep something in the bathroom too, usually a magazine, but nothing as interesting as Guns & Ammo, lol.

My husband teases that I will read the back of a cereal box or bottle of shampoo if I don't have anything else to read nearby. I gravitate towards the written word.

Everyone sounds like very avid readers! Yes, finding the time in bits and pieces can be a chore sometimes.Guns and Ammo in the potty, huh? That would scare my mother if she came over!

I usually keep one book in the potty (what, I have kids so any alone time is better than none) and I can usually keep 2-5 books going all the time. I am currently reading about 4 books about homeschooling, and just finished "the midnight cub" by James Patterson, it was pretty good, published in 89, so it was different than all his current stuff. oh, and I keep a copy of Guns&ammo in the bathroom too. just in case I am bookless.

I have found that if I read a book at night, I end up staying up way more than 30 minutes and then I hate myself in the morning. So, if I have a magazine lying around, I'll read it for my bedtime destress. That way, I can quit after an article or I am not soooo involved in it that I read until 3 in the morning as I have been known to do!

If I'm really into something I'll devote hours a day to it. But I can only do that in binges. Usually I spend 30 minutes to one hour reading.

I'm like you, Dumpy. I never had time to read in large blocks, but I'll take 15 minutes here or there when I need a stress break. And, I try to read for 30 minutes before I go to bed, to help alleve the stress of the day.

I generally read 2 things at once: something light, and something serious. More often than not, the "light" is a novel, and the "serious" is a magazine, like Time.

Sometimes I'll have a different book going in different rooms of the house! Or, I'll carry one in my bag and leave one at home.

I am one that can read for little snatches of time rather than big blocks. If I have a few minutes, I read a few pages. If it weren't for those little bits of time, I'd never get any reading done.

How much time each day do you guys spend reading? Do you ever read two or three books at the same time?
