Hmmmmm … I have learned to avoid some of youtube for the reasons you are saying. Sound mostly. Not sure yet where to go here. Fins you seem to really not like them. I know you have been on here for years and I am leaning toward what you are saying. What would you suggest?

dvd/blu ray player or home theater with apps would probably be a better choice than a stand alone roku box?

If you have Charter Internet then ESPN3 is free on the Roku.

Most of the TV network apps I roku require you to subscribe to that TV channel through a cable or satellite provider. You get very limited, if any content through apps like history channel and Espn without paying for the network through a cable company. Also, the live TV service on roku is very poor quality and jittery. A lot like watching YouTube

Candy, you can forget about an antenna or rabbit ears where you live.

Ooohh this is sounding better and better. Please tell me you don't have to call them often. I get so tired of doing that. Since I changed my service I have had to have four different people come out here and they took away my "Cadillac" dish and replaced it with a trashy one. Didn't think I would notice? HAH. That really makes no sense to me though because they give you the dishes for free. The service I went with uses cable and not a dish.
Anyway anymore helpful tips such as Netflix and Hulu - and can you still even buy rabbit ears? Don't think they would sit on my TV as they used to in the old days. Oh how things have changed.

Roku is a world better than WDTVs. Don't even look at those.
The Roku can play news. BBC World News and CNN International as well as NBC nightly news clips
For WXII all you have to do is use an antenna. Just a pair of rabbit ears should do the trick (as long as you have a digital tv/tuner)

What about stations like WXII - from what I am hearing that is a no.
Sports? I could care less about them.
I was mostly interested in the Netflix side and hubby has to have the news. WDTV? I will have to look into this some more.

It's not a replacement to cable. And it's not free

I wouldn't buy another one myself. However, if you are getting it to stream from Netflix and so forth, it's not that bad of a media player. The remote control is small and fragile though, but you can get an app for your smartphone if you so wish.
If you want to watch stuff you have downloaded on your PC or anywhere in the house, don't get the Roku. You'll be forced to use the Plex Media Server, which isn't that great of a server.
Since my main uses were streaming off the media server or using Netflix, I went with the WDTV Live. It pretty much all depends on what your main uses are going to be.

Did any of you out in GW Land purchase the Roku product and if so are you happy with it. I understand the general concept I would just like to get more information and how satisfied you are with it.
Time to kick cable to the curb once and for all!
