I've read the first two novels in the His Dark Material series. lots of ideas in there; bits of Plato mixed with gnosticisim. Also like the Paradise Lost angle--seems to be setting up lucifer as the good guy--with the reprise of the battle in heaven.

Has anyone who has read the book seen the movie? how do they compare?

Loved 'em. Well written, thought provoking and fun. I think they would make great discussion group material.

OK so I love fantasy stuff, and after reading and re-reading H.Potter, I have come to discover Pullman's The Dark Materials ... I have not started reading them yet ...Im pretty excited because it all sounds interesting from the info I have read on amazon, and after seeing the release of The Golden Compass. So has anyone out there read these books? If so what did you think?? No spoilers please, I just want to know your opinion..thanks!
