A few years ago while reading an article about southern authors I came across a great quote/story. But I can't remember which authors were included, and haven't been able to find the quotes again.

To the best of my memory it went something like, an author (can't remember his name) was asked why his writings have such long sentences. He replied, I take a swallow of bourbon at the end of each sentence. It went on to explain another author once asked the previously mentioned author how long his new book was, and the author replied, abut a fifth. To which the other author then said, I read it and found he was within a swallow or two.

Can anyone help with who said these things, or more accurately what the quotes were?
