In that case, you should return it and request a replacement. It clearly isn't working properly.

Click on the menu button. When you see the menu screen, scroll down to the "Create New Collections" option. Then enter a name for your collection using the keyboard.
To add a book to the collection was the trickiest part for me. What you do is scroll down and highlight the title of the book, then hit the arrow key to the right of the scrolling pad and it will take you to several options, one of which is adding to collections.

I think yours is totally different from mine then. It would be considered the Kindle 3. Call Amazon and they will work you through it. They are very nice. I love mine and am so lucky to have gotten one used and at such a great price. I would have to say it is the best electronic purchase I have ever made. I don't buy a lot of electronics but this one is tops.

Hi DP
The kindle is the $139 version from Amazon. It is brand spankin new from their site. So far I think it is the best piece of electronic equipment I have purchased in a long time.
Not sure if that makes it the K2 or not, as it doesn't say.
It is actually a gift for the wife, but I like it so much I'm buying myself one after the Holidays.

You probably already know this or read this but just in case....
If I recall it is exactly how I made collections on mine. You go to your home screen and do it.
Here are the steps to create a collection: Select “Create New Collection” from the Home screen menu. Enter a name for the collection. Select “Save” with the 5-way controller when finished http://e-bookvine.com/how-t...on-kindle/

Try searching how to make a collection on google. If you still need help let me know and I will try to walk you through it tomorrow. I don't know how to do it right off but will check and see if I can figure it out. I hope you enjoy your kindle. I love mine. It didn't come with much info or instructions either but I downloaded the kindle hand book or whatever you call it and also did a lot of googling to figure it out.
PS I just noticed you said you looked everywhere for help on it so I figure you meant you googled too. Try writing to amazon and ask them. They are wonderful about helping out and giving you answers. It may have a glitch or need exchanging if you have warranty. You also might try doing the reset button on the top if it is kindle 2. Be careful though if it is used and you bought it with books downloaded you might lose your books. I would be wary about doing any resets or syncs in that case. When I bought mine it was used and came with 30 books on it already. When I ordered it I had no idea you weren't supposed to keep books on it if you sold it or gave it away. That doesn't make sense anyway since the person giving it away or selling it paid for the books...anyhoo that's another story. So I happened to see that it was against the rules to do this after I ordered it and I wrote amazon and asked about the books and if they would be deleted. Amazon was very nice and said that if I deleted the books they were gone forever but that it was up to me whether to delete them or not...that the seller should have done so. I have been very leary about doing any updates or resets so as not to lose the books. I am tickled with it though.

i have a kindle which just arrived a couple days ago that i'm trying to make collections on, but the option will not highlight.
the thing came with no documentation, and it will not do what amazon says.
it is a great product, just too little documentation included.
there is some little something i'm not doing right.
any kindle owner care to walk me thru it?
