I just discovered the Mandie series of books are a popular series written by the late Lois Gladys Leppard from 1983 to 2006, intended for children ages 8 – 12 years old. A movie or two was also recently made from this series...filmed partly at Tweetsie Railroad! My daughter thought that was "cool"...she's 12.

My little girl loved them.

I don't know...I just don't find them funny, and my kids never spoke or wrote like that, even at 6. Nor were they allowed to behave like she does. We can't all like the same things... Like I said, even though I hated them, my youngest daughter went through a short phase of loving them, so we ended up with just about all of them. My older two had no interest in them. Thankfully.

You are right - Junie B Jones is part of a \"grammar lesson \" and about communicating thoughts....in the 1st grade she has a journal and writes in it....this a great series to read with kids.

My daughter is in kindergarten and she loves for me to read these books to her as well. To hope75: Of course they have bad grammer, it's a 6 year old talking in the majority of the book. That is what makes them so funny. How many 6 year olds do you know that have perfect grammer. You can incorporate that as a lesson in itself...to teach your child the appropriate way to communicate.

My girls love these books. If you enjoy them you should check with the Barter Theatre in Abington, Va. sometimes they have plays featuring Junie B. Jones. It's awesome.

I think its a great book to start a conversation about language, values , and a great book about culture... it shows kids another perspective....and keeps their attention - when Reading....The point is to get them engaged and then talk about what the books are about.

I'm using them as part of my homeschool curriculum. I have developed my own system incorporating very varied methods to homeschool my daughter. I'm keeping an eportfolio and blog about our homeschool. Between writing and running a homeschool -I'm keeping busy.

I just wrote an article on Orato ( Canadian publication) about these books. I'm reading a lot of them. I know the Wilkes County Public Schools - ( Some Teachers) read them to their kinder and elementary students. I think its a series that keeps the kids interested in reading and wanting to learn . It also brings a great conversation starter - Should that have been done this way or that? So its a great book to read with smaller kids.

It has been many years since I read these with my kids but one of them loved them and one didn't like them. One of my cousins children absolutely loved them and that is all she wanted to read for a while. I think the kids like them because they are on their level.

I absolutely hated them with a passion. My children were taught NOT to speak like her, I don't need them reading baby talk. The books got on my nerves...but we sure ended up with a crapload of them.

Have you read these books with your kids or grandkids? What do you think?
