I've read a few of them and the humor is great. I just today finished Hard Eight. I think it is the best one yet.

One for the Money, Four to Score, High Five, and Hot Six are available on NetLibrary. If you haven't tried it yet, you can download books from the Internet for free!
Just go to www.nclive.org. You will need to get a password from the library first, though. The only two drawbacks I have seen are:
1) You can't download to a CD or to an iPod. Other mp3 players (like Creative, and SanDisk) will work, though. You can also just listen from your computer.
2) The collection isn't huge, and doesn't have all the books in each series.
Still, it's FREE, and you don't have to worry about returning the cassettes to the library on time.
Oh, and they also have a huge set of language books to teach you foreign languages.
Enjoy!

I have been driving back and forth to Baptist Hospital to visit a sick relative and also a neighbor who had heart surgery, and I have been listening to audio books to make the drive more pleasant. in the last couple of weeks I have listened to Four Score, High Five and am now listening to Seven Up by Janet Evanovich. They are very entertaing and they made me laugh out loud, especially the Grandmother. I hope to be able to get the others later on.

Otto, If you are enjoying "Seven Up", try reading the entire series. If you start with the first one, you learn about Stephanie's history and how she came to be a bounty hunter. And I forgot to mention earlier, that I LOVE her grandmother! Can't wait for her next one! Yea - these books will never spark a philosopical debate, etc. but they WILL make you smile...and sometimes a good laugh is what we need!

I was on the road a lot this month, and picked up "Seven Up" at a used book store. That was my first Evanovich book, and I'm really enjoying it. I'm about 3/4 of the way through it, and it's been a fun read, although I usually prefer books with a bit of a metaphor.
In this one, Plum's chasing around an 80 year old ex-mob guy that can't see but a few feet in front of him. Naturally, he thinks that he's still tough, but he's really hilarious. I've just gotten to the part where Plum figured out what it is that the old guy is looking for, and why it has to be kept cold.
Yuck! :P

i too, simply LOVE Janet Evanovich's books - especially the "number" series....ie 'One for the Money', 'Two for the Dough', 'Three to get Deadly', 'Four to Score', 'High Five', etc. etc..... She is up to number 11 and the number 12 book is due to be released this fall.
And I agree with temporaryspastic that the 'full' series written with Charlotte Hughes is a waste of time.
The number series are about a female bounty hunter, Stephanie Plum and these books range from mystery, romance and best of all, humerous! These are the ONLY books that have ever made me laugh out loud while reading!
I like to read books that make me think and reflect.....but I also like to read as an escape.....and these books are the best around! I love good books that are a series....if you find one that you like, you can get the whole series and just keep reading like it's one gigantic book that never ends!
Sue Grafton's 'alphabet' series is also great!

Welcome back when you get here! Managing a bookstore would be a dream job. I would go nuts. I used to work next to a book store and would raid the dumpster when they threw away the books with the covers ripped off. Shhh don't tell anyone. One man's trash is another's good read.

Janet Evanovich is possibly my favorite author. I have read all of her books (excluding the series with Charlotte Hughes whom I'm not a fan of) and she is absolutly hilarious! I managed a bookstore up until a week ago. I'm in transition to move back to Wilkes, but currently residing in Charleston, SC. If anyone ever wants to talk books, please contact me! :D
