Long ago during the time of gods and goddesses, there was a time of peace. All the nations lived in harmony, content with the rules and customs of their sovereign god or goddess. While this time of great peace was good for the mortals, some of the gods and goddesses grew bored with their subjects while others grew closer. It is during this time where her story begins...
Nathanial Hayden was a simple farmer in a tiny village. He was loyal to the goddess Eternus, the goddess of time. Nathanial was a kind man who worked hard tending to the needs of his farm. However, Nathanial was considered an outcast for following the teachings of Eternus instead of their sovereign god Raymos, god of sunlight and soil.
Despite his ridicule, Nathanial continued to follow Eternus. Nathanial was a handsome man, worthy of any woman in the village. His short hair was pale blond as the first rays of the morning sun and his eyes as bright blue as a cloudless sky. His body was strong and muscular. He stood tall proud of his farm and his loyalty to what he believed to be the most beautiful of all the goddesses.
Meanwhile, far away in Orion, kingdom of the gods a feud was beginning to stir. Eternus stared at her magical crystal orb once again spying on the mortals. She was very beautiful but was also very mischievous. Eternus never liked to follow the rules of the elder gods and often caused problems for the other goddesses.
"Eternus!" her father Erid called out to her. His voice deep and booming. "Yes father." Eternus replied slightly annoyed. "Xepher has called a meeting and has requested that ALL gods and goddesses be present. That includes you". Erid responded.
Xepher, the king of the gods. The name struck fear in most all mortals. Xepher had every power of every other god and goddess combined. Eternus got up from her golden stool and glanced around as they walked towards Xepher's chamber. The city of Orion was too beautiful for even the best mortal writers to describe. Everything was cushioned by pure white clouds. Homes for the gods and goddess where made of their favorite precious metals. Golden streets lined the way. Gates of ivory and silver stood surrounding the more important gods houses. However Xepher's chamber was perhaps the most elaborate of them all.
It stood like a gleaming mansion, nearly three stories tall. The solid gold structure seemed to have a heavenly glow surrounded by lush clouds. The ivory gates in front stood swung open allowing the other gods and goddesses to attend the meeting. The bronze doors were en-crested with a variety of precious gemstones.
"Welcome Erid and Eternus." the female voice was kind and gentle and belonged to Loribeth, one of Xepher's maidens. Her features were plain and simple as her plain white dress. Her curly light brown hair was tied up in many elegant silk ribbons. "The meeting will start shortly. It's best not to keep Xepher waiting. Right this way to the meeting hall." Loribeth smiled widely, her bright brown eyes gleaming as she began leading the way.
The inside of the mansion was even more beautiful than the outside. Lush velvet curtains lined covered every window. The floor was made out of marble. The columns were solid gold and embedded with beautiful gemstones.
Once the two had gone into the meeting hall, both of them were left breathless for a moment. Very seldom was this hall used and neither one of them had seen it in person. It was solid gold room. The room made a big circle. There was a seat all around the circle for each god and goddess. In the center of the circle was a grand gold throne, upholstered with red velvet and adorned with gemstones. It was truly a throne fit for the king of the gods.
"Take your seats please." Loribeth said in a cheerful tone.
"Yes madam" Erid said gently as he grabbed Eternus by the hand and led her over to their seats. Eternus grunted when she saw that she was sitting next to Izel, goddess of cleverness and trickery. The two had never got along since one of the most beautiful mortals chose to worship Eternus over Izel. Izel had been extremely jealous over Eternus since then.
Both goddesses were very beautiful. Eternus was tall and slender. Her hair was long pearly white hair and she sported gentle rounded features. Her eyes were as deep blue as a clear starry night sky. Her skin was soft and pale and in the sunlight sparkled with a light silver glow. Her lips were as deep red as rubies. She always wore a long plain pale blue dress that drug across the ground. She was one of the younger goddesses; because of this she was popular among the mortals but envied by the older goddesses.
Izel was very strong and agile. She was short but thin and sported more angular features. Her short dark reddish-brown hair made her unique among the other goddesses who typically wore their hair long. Like the others, her skin was pale and contained a silvery glow when it showed in the sunlight. Izel like to wear a dark brown tunic and jeans to symbolize her love for male mortal warriors. Izel would often sneak down to Earth and fight alongside the mortals in battle whenever she became bored with her heavenly life.
Not long after Xepher walked into the meeting hall. He was very tall and muscular. His long blond hair hung about his shoulders. His eyes were a chilling shade of emerald green. His chin sported a long beard and despite his godly form, signs of his age were still present. He wore a white tunic and white pants. "Gods, Goddesses!" Xepher began. His voice deep and serious. "It has come to my attention that the mortals are in a time of peace. This peace is good for the mortals. We should be happy in their success." Xepher continued. The statement had gathered a series of boos and groans from his audience.
"Silence!" Xepher yelled. His voice boomed like thunder. Everyone instantly stopped talking. "We should be happy for the mortals during this time of peace...however, during this peaceful time the mortals have not been giving us proper offerings to thank us. They have assumed that they are responceable for this time of peace and have forgotten that we are in charge over them." Xepher continued. This time his statement was welcomed with cheers. "We must teach the mortals a lesson. That lesson will be this, never forget that the gods are in control" Xepher exclaimed, this time greeted by even louder cheers and applause. Xepher raised his hand motioning for silence, it was evident that he had more to say. "It is our responsibility as gods to remind the mortals who is in charge. I want every god and goddess to stand up and cause chaos for their subjects. We accept nothing less than to be praised and worshiped the way we were in the beginning!" Xepher finished his speech as all the other gods and goddesses stood up cheering and applauding, everyone except Eternus...
I'm taking a short break from writing the exciting sequel to Overthrone and I'm working on a new short story called "Eternus". The story was inspired by the song "EternuS" by Sanxion7
Eternus is the goddess of time and lives in Orion, the kingdom of the gods. Eternus falls in love with a mortal farmer named Nathanial and is tricked into leaving Orion to be with him. The young goddess must then choose between staying on Earth with the one she loves or returning home to be among her own kind.
