Of course the library, and they have several - Traphill, Ronda, Wilkes, and Watagua - where they will order books if your branch does not have one on the shelf and the others do. Also, half.com. They have pretty much everything including textbooks at amazing prices and the sellers are rated like on ebay, so you at least have some idea of who you're buying from.

Two suggestions for inexpensive reading.
1) the public library, it's free and they also have books on cassette and CD

2) The Friends of the Library's Used Book Sale. It begins on Saturday, Sept 27th at 8 AM, closes at 5 Pm that day. The Friends have a great selection of romance and mysteries and many other categories. Prices can't be beat. Most paperbacks are 50 cents, and hardbacks are $1.00
Sunday hours for sale 2 pm to 4 pm
Monday (sept. 29) -- Friday, (Oct 3) 9 Am to 5 Pm
Proceeds benefit the public library

I went to the library in Jonesville yesterday to find a small room in back packed with used books for sale. Very nice people working there told me that it's only about half of what they have due to space! Nothing is over $2!

Like others have said Goodwill and yard sales. I buy textbooks from ABEbooks.com. I also do book swaps with friends and family.

Go to Amazon, com and search for the book you are interested in. They will ususally have the "new and used starting at___" in red at the lower right side of the screen. I have found a few books which were $.01!!! Of course, you have to pay shipping, which is $3.99. So, I got the book for $4.00 instead of having to pay much more for a new one. Also, there is always the Public Library, as several have already stated. And there have been several great suggestions listed here. A person can find cheap books if they are motivated!

BTW, they have textbooks at Amazon.com, too! My son needed a book for college that would cost $79.00 in the college book store, but I found the same book on Amazon for $12.00!

If your interested in purchasing books to keep there is a shelf when you walk in Wilkes library to the right of the door. People donate these books for the Friends of the Library and they sell them for .25 cents to 2.00 a piece. Nice looking books.

At the library-it is the best! You can get on waiting lists with your library card, if there is a specific book, dvd, or magazine you want.

I agree with alot of these you can find some good ones at Goodwill, or Ebenizer's Closet...yard sales, sometimes Dollar General will have some that look interesting. I usually go to walmart cause they have a good selection, and very good authors. Nicholas Sparks is one of my favs, and you can get his books for as low as around $5.

Browse about book store here in ashe and in wilkes have good selections and also if you have any books that you don't read anymore you can trade them in their and they give you credit towards the purchase of the other books. The library is still a good place as well as they get a lot of donations and it helps them get newer books later on in the year. These are just a few suggestions. Also I would say yardsales everyone seems to have books at yardsales at a good buy

The library. I spend a lot of money at Goodwill and the others but the best place to get books is just the library. you'll save a ton of money. they also have DVD's you can check out 5 at a time. If you've not been lately, you should go look around.

At the end of the airport road a lady sells them sometimes $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. I like that I save a dollart less than new at Walmart and have 6 to read sometimes she has new titles too.

flygirl, I am neither one. I was just answering a question.

I know the ladies, as I do buy books from them.

This was no more a free ad than the goodwill or salvation army.
