My grandmother loved Danielle Steel and Fine Things was the first "grown up" novel I read. I couldn't have been older than 11. I cried my eyes out when the book explained how she (Elizabeth?) kissed her kids goodnight one last time and then died. Ugh. I never read another Danielle Steel book after that!
