The only book of Koontz I have read has been Fear Nothing which was only recently. I liked it. I like it enough to buy the second half of it and I also bought Odd Thomas and Forever Odd. My mom has went a bit nuts though with buying me Dean Koontz when she sees them at a yard sale. I now own Demon Seed, Frankenstein, some other half of Frankenstein and another one. I will eventually get around to reading them all...I hope.

rocksocks, he might like fear nothing, and odd thomas by dean koontz. there are sequels to these books, i know fear nothing has at least one more that follows it and odd thomas has two more after it.

Thanks, ap1224! He's not very young, 24, but has recently started getting into reading, I'm thinking he didn't care much for Stephen King, but I don't remember the turnoffs. I was happy to see my little brother get into some books and would love to help him find some more he'd enjoy.

Rocksocks, what age reader? I love a lot of Stephen King books, but due to some language/violence issues in some, I wouldn't recommend for young, young readers. Also, he has written some I couldn't get into at all like "From a Buick 8". Don't get him that one. It'll turn him off like a light switch. I liked Bag of Bones, Dreamcatcher, The Green Mile, there's too many to name. Fantasy appears to be big right now if he's interested. My 15 year old daughter likes the vampire/werewolf stuff...Twilight is one of the novels she's read and it has 2 sequels. I've read them as well. They're a bit high school but good reads nonetheless. I'm new to Gowilkes and rarely get the chance to visit but will try to get more involved.

Do any Koontz fans recommend any other authors whose works might be enjoyed by a young reader who's really started to enjoy reading after picking up some of Koontz's works? I'd like to give this person a book as a gift, he is really intrigued by the horror/thriller stuff.

I'll have to try Door To December. I've read several Koontz novels...the Odd Thomas series, The Taken and several other titles whose names escape me at the moment. The Taken was phenomenal. It grabbed me in the first chapter and held me hostage until the very last page! If you haven't read it, it is wonderful...

Which book has the character that can stop time and put snakes in a house with someone and then start time back and the person in the house thinks that they just appeared. I cannot remember which book it is and I wanted to read it again. My favorites are Fear Nothing and Seize the Night.

If you ever watch a movie based on his books I have seen 2 and they follow the book the best almost exactly This is the only author I have ever been able to say that about.

I must pleasantly disagree with you. I love the way he writes his characters. I just finished Lightning a few minutes ago, and I was so enthralled with it that it, literally, only took me about a day and a half to read cover to cover. The only fault I have found with Koontz books is that the husbands seem to die in a lot of his books. :(

Does anyone else think Koontz does a poor job of writing for his characters?

Most of his stories that I've read, I've really enjoyed the plot lines of. So I think he's a great story teller. But I've noticed that the voices that he gives his characters are not ones I would believe they would have. If that makes any sense.

For example, very rarely, if ever, do any of his characters use foul language. It's not a necessary part of life and many people go through life each day and don't use any either. But when I reading about a cold blooded killer or hardened and jaded cop (or whatever) and the language is basically, "Oh geez, I'm really angry" I think it takes away from the character and brings me out of the book a little.

I quit reading his books for a while for that very reason. I'm a huge King fan and while I found their stories similar I just thought King's characters were much more "real".

I did pick up Odd Thomas at my in-laws' though, and remember liking it quite a bit. I guess there weren't any of those types of characters in it.

Just wondering what others think.

I love Dean! My favorite book by him is The Door To December but currently I'm reading Darkfall. So far it's really good. :D

i just finished reading the face ,,it was a little long winded but i liked it ,,i have read almost all his book, you can get all of his books at amazon.com for a penny.

absolutely love the man!!!!! just finished a oldie one door away from heaven.....kinda threw me around in a loop but was interesting read.

koontz has 3 'odd thomas' books, they are about this young man in new mexico, the first two are really good, haven't read brother odd yet either, it's the 3rd one.

I've not read Brother Odd, but I do love Dean Koontz books. Just finished The Taking. It was great. 8)
