no it does not while it is burning..the smell it put into the propane gas so it can be detected if there is a leak of some sort...that smell is pretty bad.

Does the vent free propane heater give off a smell? I have a child w/ asthma..

we have an unvented propane wall heater and we use it all day and just use the electric at night. my wife loves it.

I burn wood its not nasty unless the fire ur burning is on the main level of ur house. I have a wood stove in the basement with a blower and on it really throws the heat. But its a lot of work to keep her going. Long as the fire burning is in the basement you will avoid all the smoke for the most part unless you get the basement very smokey. You would not want the burning on the main level due to smoke it would be bad. LoL

We are looking into alternate heat sources other than electric. We have a wood fireplace, but are possibly wanting to add a propane or oil base heat source as well. Would appreciate anyone who has these type of heat sources to add their thoughts. Pros/cons?
