If you tape and plastic ur windows that will keep heat in some and a lot if you live in a older house.

Propane gives off very little if any CO. Propane is actually considered a green environmentally friendly gas although, the processing of oil and natural gas to get propane is not.

On the ventless units where does the carbon monoxide go? wouldn't it build up in the house?

Cost depends on efficiency of the heat source and the heat loss of the structure being heated.

You surely would not want to heat a poorly insulated drafty home with a heat pump or electric heat. Gas or wood would be the only way to heat something like that.

It all boils down to the heat loss from the structure. You can have a 98% efficient gas furnace and still it will cost much to heat a structure with a high heat loss factor.

Chicken litter would make a cozy fire.

You can have a ventless wall heater(propane)!installed and buy a tank to have refilled or any gas company will bring a tank to your home. The cheapest route is to put a fireplace insert in your fireplace and burn wood.

Where can one find some coal these days?

Sounds like the way to go.

Sad part is propane is a by product of the production of natural gas and oil processing.

I posted the same thing last year and some people still believe propane is the way to go when in fact it's the most expensive.
Now if grounhogs or squirrels have chewed holes in your high effeciency heatpump or elecric furnace's ductwork and you're heating the crawl space or attic then yes a wall mounted propane ductless heater from Walmart might save you money.

Wow! That is a huge diff...ty for sharing. That is why I am asking around, trying to do research before committing to something like this.

Kerosene 7.4Gallons x $3.50 =$25.90
Propane Gas (LP) 11Gallons x $2.50 =$33.00

Now looking at that do you really want to use propane?

Not close to natural gas, so propane is prob our best option. The wood stove is too time consuming. What are about the yearly costs?

To me propane is cheaper than a heat pump I freeze when the heat pump is on. I used an electric heater and two propane heaters one in each end of the house. I have to say the house is not evenly heated but I close off what rooms I can to save on cost.

When I had propane...it was with Blue Ridge Elect Co-op, it was quite pricey...I wouldn't do it again.

Propane is the cleanest burning fuel there is. There is very little if any burn off gases.

Propane is expensive if you buy it at the beginning of and during heating season.

Natural Gas is the way to go if you are near a line.

If you are close to the Natural Gas that's runs around Wilkes, get hooked up to it. One heck-of-a-lot cheaper that all the rest.

It's ok...I have days like that too (often). That said, what are your typical yearly costs for propane? Also thought about a tankless water heater since we will be having the propane installed for the heater...anyone have one of those?
