I'm reading Ink Heart right now. I picked it up at a used book store in October and yesterday I saw the advert. for the movie (which I didn't realize they were making ) So I thought, ok, well I should read it now before the movie comes out at the end of the month lol.

Yeah, Kushiel's Dart is not for everyone, lots of politics and lots of religion, and I will admit some parts are hard to get through, but it was worth sticking with and reading the series for me.

I never could get into Kushiel's Dart...I got about half way and then all the political stuff became tiresome.

Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is another good book, the second in the series comes out this year. Also, the Dragon Lance series by Weiss and Hickman (I think the first book is Dragons of Autumn Twilight). Now I'm going to go through my book shelf and see what else I have that I can recommend lol.

Don't know how I could forget Sara Douglas or Marion Zimmerman Bradley. Tobe, you will really enjoy Mercedes Lackey if you liked Anne McCaffery at all. (Her son has written at least 2 books now).

THE MISTS OF AVALON BY MARION ZIMMER BRADLEY.
This is by far my favorite fantasy work ever! It tells the story of King Arthur from the women's perspective. I couldn't put this book down until I was finished, and even then, I thought about the story for days and days after I was done. (Only Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth had the same effect.) I gave it 5 stars, and I highly recommend it!

Stephen King's The Dark Tower series are amazing fantasy/sci fi reads. The first book, The Gunslinger, is a little slow, but get through that and the next 6 books are very hard to put down!
I enjoyed The Wayfarer Redemption Series by Sara Douglass...they aren't the best books, but they were enjoyable.
I loved the Tairen Soul series by CL Wilson...these are fantasy romance.

I've read Salvatore, I love his work. I"ve read the Martin Series, it was very good but not easy to get through - good but takes some serious concentration to keep the characters/stories straight. I loved the Pern series by McCaffrey, even read the new one our her son wrote. I've read Terry GOodkind too.... I guess I read too much, all the good ones are done! Anyone got anymore suggestions?

Anne McCaffery has a dragon series "The Dragons of Pern" as well as a few other series. She was a wonderfully gifted writer. Her son Todd, is now writing some books with the same series.
Mercedes Lackey has a wonderful selection of series as well as single books. I have read them all as well as McCaffery's
Good Reading.

Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth Series....I highly recommend this series to everyone. I've read the entire series (11 books I think) multiple times, they are that good. Everytime I get someone to read the first one they get hooked, so I encourage everyone to give it a shot.

The only things Ive read outside of Tolkein are by R.A. Salvatore. Ive heard that George R.R. Martin and his A Song of Ice and Fire series is pretty good.

Anyone have any good fantasy books that they'd like to post about so we can see if we'd be interested in reading them?
Also, anyone read any authors similar to Tamora Pierce that they can recommend? I just got finished with all of her books and loved them so much I'm wishing there were more... so wanting to know if there's other authors with her "tone."
