I'm don't really post on a regular basis on here, but I stop by to read the posts on a regular basis. I would love to be part of a book club, it just seems you guys are having trouble getting started. I wanted to make a suggestion for how to pick the books (well a couple actually): 1) Use a national best sellers list and choose from that (take a vote based off of the list) . 2) Take turns picking books...have a post that lists what month each person would be picking a book for (maybe have someone compile the usernames of interested people and randomly draw them out of a hat or something then post the list on here for what month everyone gets to pick)....then that month they can pick whatever book they would like for everyone else to read ( I like this idea, but it requires everyone to have very open minds about what others might choose). 3) Everyone suggest ONE book. Someone compile all these, draw them randomly out of a hat, then list them in the order to be read (by month) in a post.

I received a copy of Marley and Me as a gift - can't wait to have time to start it! Is anyone else interested in reading it?

Mayde we could pick a certain author or subject matter and all discuss it. That would be fun.

I'm impressed. I grew up in Millers Creek but left over 30 years ago. At that time most people there could barely read.

Adventures of Huck Finn is a great book

Has anyone came up with anything yet? If not, I think perhaps we could all start with a nice classic.

A few suggestions

A Tale of Two Cities-Charles dickens
Macbeth-William Shakespeare
The Count of Monte Cristo-Alexandre Dumas
The Hobbit-J.R.R Tolkien
The Odyssey-Homer
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn-Mark Twain
Of Mice and Men-John Steinbeck

All of these are pretty popular but it's just a suggestion.

Mystery is my favorite....love true crime too....Patricia Cornwell is by far my favorite author...Terri Blackstock is awsome too...she writes mystries that are Christian based....

I am definitely up for a good mystery. If you do come up with a suggestion for a book, give me a little time to get it. Maybe we could start with a specific date to get started. Maybe a book no one has read yet. That will be kind of hard to figure out. But I do love the idea of reading a chapter each night and discussing it. I will start looking for a good mystery unless all of you would like something else (romance, history, etc. ).

I also just got another "1st in a series" mystery by Deborah Crombie that looks pretty good. A Share in Death. Haven't started it either! It looks pretty good as an alternative. Otherwise, I'm open for suggestions....

I havent read the mitford series. It's a suggestion though. Does everyone agree on this one? And if so, will we have discussion threads on it? Id really like to see this book club get up and running =D

there nice reads...although not exciting reads. I thought that it was nice that the series takes place in a ficticous (sp) town called Mitford which is the equivalent of Blowing Rock.
