I am reading GRATITUDE FOR SHOES Grosing up poor in the Smokies by Cleo Hicks Williams . It is a very good book about growing up back in the mountains back in the 40's and 50's. Mountain language is used quite a bit and she tells what the words mean. It brings back a lot of memories of how it was when I was growing up in the mountains, You can find it on Ebay or Amazon.

Oh yeah I'm not even remotely religious and even I found "The Shack" a good read. I considered it an inspiring work of fiction, but still really enjoyed it and would reccomend it.

Thanks, I have read some of the "Mitford" series and "Where The Lillies Bloom". I read other kinds of books too. "The Shack" was very interesting. I read some John Grisham books but I can not get into reading them for some reason now. My moods change and my book types change. The one I am reading now is called "Swan Place" by Augusta Trobaugh. It is starting out pretty interesting.

The "Mitford" series by Jan Karon. This started as a weekly installment in the Blowing Rock newspaper.

Well, I'm not sure if you like tales of the supernatural (not exactly mountain setting but it takes place in the Carolinas) my friend Cher Lambeth wrote a book called "Haunted Theaters of the Carolinas" talking about her 'ghost hunts' in many famous theaters.

Not really a mountain setting, but it does have dialect with some of the people in the book
To kill a mockingbird....I love this book and the movie is good too.

Try " A Girl of the Limberlost" by Gene Stratton Porter - takes place in a swamp. Read it when I was much younger & loved it :)

I like books that have a mountain or country setting with the dialect to go along with the setting. Can be either adult or young adult. Preferrably not over 500 pages.
